Chipola Travels to Gulf Coast Wednesday, Feb. 16

Chipola will finish off the season at Gulf Coast on Wednesday, Feb. 16. 

The Indians are (24-5, 8-3) after scoring an 60-50 win over Pensacola on Feb. 12 and an 83-67 win over Northwest Florida on Feb. 9. Before losing to Tallahassee (56-45) on Feb. 5, Chipola scored four straight wins over; Gulf Coast (80-76) on Feb. 2, Pensacola (67-51) on Jan. 26, Northwest Florida (50-47) on Jan. 22 and Tallahassee (63-59) on Jan. 19.

As of Feb. 15, the men’s Panhandle standings are Northwest (8-3), Chipola (8-3), Gulf Coast (5-5), Tallahassee (4-6) and Pensacola (1-9). Chipola is the number two team in the FCSAA State Poll, and number seven in the NJCAA National Poll.   

Chipola was 23-5 last year, with a Panhandle Conference title, an FCSAA State Championship and a final four finish in the National Tournament. Coach Donnie Tyndall is in his second year at Chipola.

The Lady Indians (22-5, 7-4) scored an 69-56 win over Pensacola State on Feb. 12. Chipola lost to Northwest Florida (68-63) on Feb. 9 but, scored five straight wins over; Tallahassee (67-57) on Feb. 5, Gulf Coast (63-51) on Feb. 2, Pensacola (66-64) on Jan. 26, Northwest Florida (52-50) on Jan. 22 and Tallahassee (86-43) on Jan. 19.

As of Feb. 15, the women’s Panhandle standings are: Northwest (9-2), Chipola (7-4), Pensacola (5-5), Gulf Coast (5-5), and Tallahassee (0-10). Chipola is the number two team in the FCSAA State Poll, and number twelve in the NJCAA National Poll.   

Chipola finished in the Final Four of the 2021 NJCAA National Basketball Tournament with a 20-5 overall record and a seventh FCSAA State Championship. In his tenth season at Chipola, head coach Greg Franklin has won three state championships with two second place finishes and a national title in 2015.
