Chipola Students Recognized for State and National Awards

MARIANNA—Chipola College recognized two of its top students, Sara Catherine Brown and Oliver Nandho, at a press conference on April 9.

The two Chipola sophomores were among 144 students named to the All-Florida Academic Team from the nearly 1 million students in the Florida College System.  

Brown was also named a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, one of only 50 students nationwide Her portrait will be added to the Chipola College Academic Wall of Honor for winning the national award.  

Sara Catherine Brown of Hosford, is the daughter of Doyl and Beth Brown. She is a Civil Engineering major who plans to transfer to Florida State University-PC.

Through PTK, she implemented the “Page for Change” project, in which she read to approximately 100 kindergartners and sent each student home with a book of their own. Brown also implemented the “Be the Match” drive on campus, which added donors to the United States Bone Marrow Registry

Oliver Nandho of Blountstown, is the son of Fidel Nandho & Nancy Castellanos. He is a Mechanical Engineering major who plans to transfer to the University of Florida.  

Through PTK, Nandho organized and hosted a series of informational seminars on addiction by mental health counselors.

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 10 nations. Learn more at ptk.org.
