Chipola Men’s Basketball 2021-22 Schedule Released
Coach Donnie Tyndall and the Chipola men's basketball team will begin its defense of the college's 16th FCSAA/Region XIII Championship on Nov. 1. The Indians will take on Davidson-Davie Community College at the Milton Johnson Center with tip-off set for 7 PM. The Storm, out of Thomasville, NC, were runners-up in the NJCAA D2 National Tournament last season and finished with a record of 23-3.
The Indians will host three tournaments as part of their non-conference schedule in the months of November and December.
The Milton Johnson Classic will be Nov. 5-6 with teams from three different states taking part. Chipola will take on Marion Military Institute Friday night followed by a Saturday afternoon game against Southwest Tennessee Community College on Saturday. Southwest Tennessee lost in the first round of the NJCAA D1 National Tournament a season ago, losing to eventual National Champion, Coffeyville Community College. Southwest Mississippi Community College rounds out the Milton Johnson Classic.
On December 3-4, two teams from Georgia will join the Indians and Gulf Coast for the Chipola Classic. The Indians will face Georgia Highlands on Friday then take on South Georgia Tech on Saturday.
The men's team will join the women's team in hosting the Panhandle Classic on Dec. 10-11. Games will begin at 1:00 each day with the Chipola women and men, playing at 5:00 and 7:00, respectively. The men will take on Gadsden State on Friday and Jones County Community College on Saturday. Panhandle Conference rival Pensacola State will also participate in the men's tournament.
The Indians will hit the road for three tournaments prior to conference play beginning Nov. 12-13 at the FCSAA Shootout on the campus of Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne. The Indians will face the host team on Friday and then take on Santa Fe College on Saturday.
On Nov. 19-20, Chipola will play in a tournament at Georgia Highlands College in Rome, Georgia. On Friday, the Indians will face a familiar foe in State College of Florida. On Saturday, the Indians will take on Shelton State from Alabama. Chipola defeated the Bucs in the second round of last season's National Tournament, 73-60.
Panhandle Conference play begins Jan. 4 when the Indians host Tallahassee, a team Chipola shared the conference championship with last season.
The conference schedule will return to a 12 game format this season with each team hosting six games. The Indians will host Tallahassee and Pensacola twice and Northwest Florida State and Gulf Coast State once. Chipola will host Homecoming on Feb. 5 when Tallahassee makes their second trip of the season to Marianna. Sophomore Night will take place prior to the final home game on Feb. 12 against Pensacola.
The FCSAA State Tournament will be held in Niceville on March 2-5 followed by the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, on March 14-19.
Coach Tyndall says, "I feel our nonconference schedule is one of the top nonconference slates in the country. We play four teams that are ranked in the top 20 or receiving votes in the national poll. In addition, we have a couple of great classics in December against very good competition which will make for some thrilling games for our fans! Obviously, this is all prior to Panhandle Conference play which, in my opinion, is the best conference in junior college basketball. There are great coaches and great players across our conference and this season will be no different. It will be great to fill The Milt with fans this season and we hope to make Chipola basketball an exciting and enjoyable event for the family every time we tip it off!"
At this time, our plan is to welcome all fans back to the Milton Johnson Center for the 2021-2022 season. Membership for the 2021-22 season of Chipola Athletics has begun.
