Chipola Basketball at Home
The Chipola College men’s basketball team (8-1) hosts the Chipola Men’s Classic, Dec. 3-4. The Indians host Georgia Highlands, Friday at 7 p.m. and South Georgia Tech, Saturday at 3 p.m.
Other games during the Classic include: Gulf Coast vs. South Georgia Tech Friday at 5 p.m., and Gulf Coast vs. Georgia Highlands, Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Indians also host Andrew College Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m.
Both Chipola teams host the Panhandle Classic, Dec. 10-11. The Lady Indians play Central Georgia Tech (Dec. 10 at 5 p.m.) and Jones College (Dec. 11 at 5 p.m.). The Indians play Gadsden State (Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.) and Jones County (Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.).
Other Classic games include: Friday: Hillsborough Women vs. Jones (1 p.m.), Pensacola Men vs. Jones (3 p.m.); Saturday: Hillsborough Women vs. Central Georgia Tech (1 p.m.), Pensacola Men vs. Gadsden (3 p.m.)
The Indians are the number one team in the FCSAA State Poll and number three in the NJCAA National Poll.
Chipola finished last season in the final four of the National Tournament. Chipola was 23-5 last year, with a Panhandle Conference title and the FCSAA State Championship. In his second year at Chipola, Coach Donnie Tyndall has not lost a home game as of Dec. 2.
The Lady Indians (10-0) are first in the FCSAA Poll, tied with Northwest Florida State. Chipola is second in the NJCAA National Poll. The Lady Indians finished in the Final Four of last year’s NJCAA National Basketball Tournament. The team finished with a 20-5 overall record and their seventh FCSAA Championship. Head coach Greg Franklin begins his tenth season at Chipola. He has won three state championships with two second place finishes and a national title in 2015.
Both teams open the Panhandle Conference season at home Jan. 4 with Tallahassee at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
