Course Description:This course is designed to develop the ability to analyze the meaning of specific works in major literary genres and deliver oral interpretations of these works.

ORI 2000 is not a General Education core course.
The purpose of the humanities in the core curriculum is to understand the human condition through the study of the following: art history, literature, music history, music theory, performing arts, philosophy, and visual arts.
H-1 Identify the humanities in various cultures.
H-2 Elucidate the historical context of human artistic expressions.
H-3 Analyze artistic expressions and articulate informed responses.
H-4 Identify reasons to preserve the humanities.
H-5 Describe core human beliefs and principles in the humanities.

Means of accomplishing learning outcomes:
- Classroom activities and exercises designed to improve articulation, projection, and vocal variety.
- Study and performance of different genres of literature.
- Video tapes of all student performances in order to provide self-critiquing opportunities.
- Peer and teacher critiques which point out the good points and points which need.
- You are expected to attend college sponsored cultural events which involve speakers, story tellers, or performers. These will be assigned as available.
- Usually only one or two such events are available.
