Course Description:This course introduces the study of drugs, drug standards and legislation, and is designed to provide the nursing students with a basic background of drug classifications, actions, dosages, and side effects. This course includes basic drugs and reviews the mathematical computations that are necessary for safe administration in the clinical setting. Drug therapy will be integrated throughout the curriculum. Students will demonstrate safe techniques of medication administration in the skills laboratory prior to administering medications in the clinical area.

Means of accomplishing learning outcomes:
The instructor will:
- Assign textbook readings and facilitate student navigation in ATI for assignments with content coverage.
- Lead lecture and class discussion.
- Provide further appropriate supplementary materials that align with the material presented in the textbook and content covered in class.
- Provide timely feedback on assignments.
- Hold weekly office hours to address further questions and student needs outside of class time.
- Be available to students via office telephone, Canvas email, and appointments as necessary and according duty schedule.
The students will:
- Arrive to class on time and in proper dress code.
- Ensure all clinical requirements (immunizations, certifications, etc.) are current and uploaded to Castle Branch.
- Engage in assigned readings and participate respectfully in class discussion.
- Complete ATI assignments on time per course calendar to engage in course content.
