Course Description:
This course introduces the student to the skills and techniques used in firefighting. Classroom instruction includes a variety of fire related topics. Practical exercises and scenarios are included to enhance classroom instruction and skill development.

Means of accomplishing learning outcomes:

The Firefighter I program uses lecture is the primary method of instruction. Students are expected to be attentive and are encouraged to ask questions. Lectures will come primarily from the textbook in formats that may include power point presentations, white board illustrations, videos, and web-based technologies and student discussion on specific topics. Given information from discussion and reading materials, through hands on skills testing, the student will satisfy the Job Performance Requirements (JPR) of the applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, as well as any applicable skill sheets that have been adopted by the Florida State Fire College, Bureau of Standards and Training.
