College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

About CLEP

You can receive credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the 33 CLEP examinations. All CLEP exams are Internet-based, allowing for instant score reports (except for College Composition), year-round testing, and "rights-only" scoring--no penalty for guessing.

The "Get Started" link will connect you to the CLEP site where you can create an account that will enable you to register for a CLEP exam and pay your exam fee. Get Started with CLEP

No CLEP credit will be awarded by Chipola College for any course in which a student has previously been enrolled or earned credit. You may not repeat an exam of the same title within six months of the initial testing date. If you retake the exam within the six-month period, your administration will be considered invalid, your scores will be canceled and all test fees will be forfeited.

CLEP exams are offered  on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Register for tthe CLEP exams at https://clepportal.collegeboard.org/myaccount.  Make sure to print your registration ticket to present on your test date. CLEP Credit Equivalency

The College-Level Examination Program, unlike Advanced Placement, is not built around a curriculum, but rather is designed to test students’ knowledge on a variety of college-level subjects, regardless of where they may have learned the material. CLEP exams are developed by committees of college faculty who design questions based on what is typically covered in lower-level college courses and who set passing standards for the exams (scores are not longer based on studies of student performance in college courses). With the new computer-based tests, new questions are constantly being added, especially in rapidly-changing fields such as Computer Science. The typical passing score on computer-based CLEP exams for general education purposes is 50, although paper and pencil versions will be different.

Chipola College will award college credits for qualifying College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) examination scores per FAC 6A-10 guidelines and the Articulation Coordinating Committee Credit-By-Exam Equivalents, adopted September 19, 2001, as follows:

1. Since a grade of “P” for passing will be assigned, no grade points will be assigned for credits awarded through the CLEP Program.
2. Determination of the specific college courses or subject areas for which credits are awarded will be determined by the College Testing Center, guided by the equivalency matrix below, upon receipt of official CLEP examination results.
