Chipola Softball Advances to Semi-Finals

The Lady Indians of Chipola are where they wanted to be after the first day of the Region VIII tournament. However, their journey, they hope, is far from over.
Chipola defeated South Florida in game one by the final 4-2. The Lady Indians got solo homeruns from Andrea Sullivan and Hannah Lovestrand in the bottom of the sixth to break the 2-2 tie with South Florida.
In game two, Chipola plated two runs in the sixth inning again to move ahead 3-2 versus St. Petersburg. The Lady Indians would score another run on a pass ball in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the inning, St. Pete would put ducks on the pond at first and second but the Chipola defense would get pitcher Emma Stevenson out of the jam.
After starting slow in both games on day one, Chipola Coach Belinda Hendrix knows it’s important for her players play with a passion throughout the entire game.
“We struggled to hit the ball and make adjustments early in both games,” said Coach Hendrix. “We’ve got to do a better job with situations.”
Brittany Black was credited with both wins on day one.
Chipola will now face State College of Florida, Saturday, at 1:00pm CDT. The winner of that game will be only one win away from clinching the Gulf District Championship and booking their ticket to the national tournament.
