Chipola Softball Departs for Nationals

The 2010 Chipola Softball team has accomplished many achievements this season, but this upcoming week, they will attempt to achieve the highest honor of any junior college team in the country.
On Monday, the Lady Indians will depart Marianna with their sights set solely on the NJCAA National Tournament in St. George, Utah.
Although the official seeding has not been determined, the Lady Indians have been prepping for their upcoming games since they punched their ticket over two weeks ago.
“With so much time between winning the state tournament and playing in the national tournament, we’re paced ourselves with practices,” said Chipola Coach Belinda Hendrix. “We were able to fine tune some areas of game defensively and work with our hitters.”
The Lady Indians will be gunning for their second national championship in four years. Their first national title came in 2007 when a sophomore-led roster dominated the country.
Although there have been similarities made between these two teams, this year’s squad is filled with an overwhelming majority of freshmen. Nevertheless, it is this youthful vigor that has provided Chipola Nation many exciting games and routs of opponents.
Chipola’s first game, regardless of opponent will be Thursday, May 20th. Live video webcasting can be seen via a link at www.chipolaathletics.com . Fans away from the internet can also hear the games broadcasted on WJAQ-100.9FM.
