The Chipola Indians used a balanced scoring attack and
timely defense to take down USC-Salkehatchie on Saturday
afternoon 81-57.
Four players scored in double digits for the top ranked
Indians during the second day of the Georgia Perimeter
Thanksgiving Classic. Sophomore Clevin Hannah and freshman
Casey Mitchell led the way with 12 points each.
“I thought we did a lot of good things today,” said Chipola
coach Greg Heiar. “We did a better job of taking care of the
basketball and we were more efficient on both ends of the
floor today.”
The Indians, who committed 24 turnovers a night early,
reduced that number to 17 as they improved to 6-0 on the
season.
Freshman Gary Flowers had 10 points, all coming after the
halftime intermission, to go along with his team high 7
rebounds.
“I think we’re beginning to understand the big picture,”
said Heiar. “Now we have to keep getting better everyday.”
Sophomore Mario Little rounded out the double-digit scoring
for Chipola. He, too, had 10 points.
Freshman Vernon Teel added 8 points and 5 assists in the
win.
The Indians next play on Monday evening. They host St.
Petersburg at 7:00 pm CST. The game can be seen live via
Chipola College TV as a webcast at www.chipolamenshoops.com.
