The
Chipola Indians basketball team improved to 2-0 following their 89-57
thrashing of Brevard Community College Saturday night at the Milton H.
Johnson Health Center.
The
Indians left little doubt about their power as they never trailed in the
40 minutes of play. The Indians led by as much as 19 points in the first
half of play, taking a 46-25 lead into the locker room.
The
Indians took the court following the intermission and picked up where
they left off with Jamarcus Ellis picking up consecutive baskets to
bolster the lead.
With
the Indians leading 83-41, Coach Greg Heiar filled the court with his
reserve players, giving Jamarcus Ellis, DeAndre Thomas and Victor
Dubovitsky a much deserved rest.
Ellis, Thomas and Dubovitsky recorded only four minutes of playing time
in the second half before giving way to the reserves.
Leading the Indians in scoring was Dubovitsky with 17 points, followed
closely by Ellis and Thomas with 16 points each. Eric Price was on the
board with 14, followed by Mario Little who came off the bench to put up
nine points.
Following the game, Heiar was impressed with his team's defensive
effort.
"We
played a really good defensive game, going up by as much as 24 points in
the first half and then the reserves came in and gave our starters a
rest," Heiar said.
The
Indians were scheduled to be on the road Monday evening in Tennessee
with game time at 7 p.m. against Motlow Community College. The Indians
will return home on Thursday for a home game against Bevill Community
College with a 7 p.m. tip off. |
