Chipola outlasts St. Petersburg, 9-7

Chipola won the rubber game of the three-game series with St. Petersburg, 9-7, Sunday afternoon. Carlos Moncrief induced a game-ended double play by Drew Poulk to give the Indians the win. The Indians jumped off the a quick start, scoring runs in each of the first three innings. Ryan Chaffee, Moises Montero, and Chris Berroa each hit homeruns in a five-run second inning. Marc Bourgeois also added a solo homerun in the sixth innning. The Indians were led offensively by Berroa (3-5, HR, 1 RBI), Bourgeois (3-5, HR, 2 RBI's), and Jordan Lucas (2-3, 2B, 1 RBI).
Chipola starting pitcher Ryan Chaffee received his third victory on the mound. Chaffee went 4.1 innings, striking out four. Chipola reliever Matt Jackson pitched 3.2 innings of solid relief, striking out two batters. Moncrief also picked up his third save of the season. The Indians next game will be Tuesday, March 4th versus Grand Rapids at 2:00 CST.
